The trailer for Quantic Dream’sStar Wars Eclipseblew fans away at The Game Awards 2021, with many expressing excitement to play a narrative-drivenStar Warsgame from the studio behindHeavy Rain. Since then, it has become apparent thatStar Wars Eclipsewas announced way ahead of its potential release date. Now a new report has provided more clarification, indicating that fans may be waiting atleastfive years to play the game.

This report comes from Xfire, written by leaker Tom Henderson, who previously leakedStar Wars Eclipseahead of itsGame Awards reveal. According to Henderson, part of the reason why Quantic Dream announcedStar Wars Eclipseso early was an attempt to attract developers to its studio, as it’s found it difficult to get talent to work on the game. As pointed out in Henderson’s report, Quantic Dream has been accused of mistreating its workers and cultivating a toxic work environment, which is likely playing a role in the studio’s apparent inability to hire new talent.

Henderson’s report includes evidence thatQuantic Dreamjob listings have been regularly updated to make it seem like they were posted more recently, perhaps as a way to avoid looking like it is finding it difficult to fill the roles.

In the meantime, Henderson also offers another possibility for why theStar Wars Eclipsetrailerwas dropped so early despite the game apparently being a minimum of five years away. Henderson cites a source that says that this was done as an attempt by Quantic Dream “to attract potential buyers.” Microsoft and Sony are both purchasing studios in an attempt to bolster their lineup of exclusives, and if the information from Henderson’s source is accurate, it would seem that Quantic Dream wants to be one of them.

If a company was going to purchase Quantic Dream, one would think that Sony would be the most obvious candidate. After all, Sony and Quantic Dream have a long history together, with PlayStation publishing Quantic Dream’sHeavy Rain,Beyond: Two Souls, andDetroit: Become Humanas PlayStation console exclusives. Then again, Quantic Dream’s workplace problems and thecontroversies surrounding founder David Cagemay very well be playing a role in why PlayStation and no else has purchased the studio yet.

While fans may be waiting years to play Quantic Dream’sStar Wars Eclipse, there should be plenty of otherStar Warsgaming projects released in the interim, includingLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, theopen worldStar Warsgame from Ubisoft, and the others that are in the works.
