Stardew Valleyplayers can spend hours trying to befriend each and every character in the game. There are over two dozen NPCs that players can interact with, get to know, and even marry. ThoughStardew Valleyhas been out for years, one player found out something new when it comes to this mechanic and the in-game character portraits.
Stardew Valleydrops players on their grandfather’s farmlocated next to a small community called Pelican Town. The game was released in 2016 and has seen commercial success since then. In a playthrough, players can give NPCs gifts and track how far their friendship has progressed through an in-game social menu.

The clip shows this player going through a few ofthe characters inStardew Valleyand their Gift Log. This menu is underneath the social tab of the in-game menu and to get here players need only click the NPC they wish to learn more about. In the clip, the player clicks on the small portraits of each character and discovers that each one has its own special emote. For example, Linus reacts to the click by showing off a scared look while Robin just giggles. It seems that each villager has their own unique emote in the game despite some players never having noticed it before.
Stardew Valleyis a game that lends itself to longer playthroughs, making a discovery like this surprising. Though characters have their own emotes, this doesn’t change anything in the game. This is, however, an interesting feature that may have been hidden from some players because the emotes are part of a menu. For those looking to try out thisStardew Valleyfeature, it seems as though the player needs to be at least four hearts into their friendship with a character in order for this to work.
The social mechanic in the game provides players with a number of interesting conversations and even rewards players who pursue one of theromanceable characters inStardew Valley. This points to how much variety there is in the game and shows why the game has been so successful.
Then again, there are a bunch of other activities for players to pursue in the game, and they reward players with bonuses, interesting items, and open new areas like theSkull Cavern inStardew Valley. Fishing, mining, farming, and foraging can each be leveled up to make the game easier on the player.
