Having a spacefaring neighbor is the norm inStellaris. Empires spread their borders to transcend only one or two systems, and even succeeded in colonizing other planets. These neighbors can be friendly enough to warrant cooperation, but other times, they’re hostile enough to warrant immediate attack for survival.

A special caution is needed when the neighbor is a Fanatic Purifier, who is determined to wipe out all other species in the galaxy save themselves. This kind of neighbor will attack other empires when there is an opportunity. As such, players will need to develop countermeasures in order to pacify the threat.

7Form A Federation

Make use of the universal hatred against Fanatic Purifiers.

One thing that can be counted on inStellarisis the collective hatred against Fanatic Purifiers from all other spacefaring empires. Even a Materialist and Spiritualist empire will work together to defeat neighboring Fanatic Purifiers despite their clashing ideologies, due to the threat posed.

Therefore, forming a federationshould be a prioritiy for players with a Fanatic Purifier as their neighbor. They will be more than happy to band together and eradicate the galactic threat before it is too late as the purifier builds up a massive fleet.

6Prioritize Defense Platforms

Defense Platforms are lifelines against hostile empires.

Building Defense Platforms in starbases should be the norm even without any neighboring Fanatic Purifiers due tomany alien threats. And with these hostile neighbors, prioritizing them is one of the best things to do before any of the purifier’s fleet officially enters the borders. The platforms will serve as a deterrent to whittle down the fleet’s numbers, making it easier to finish the purifier’s fleet.

However, placement of both the starbase and the defense platform is crucial as well. Multiple hyperlanes could easily mean that the Fanatic Purifier can simply circle around the heavily fortified starbase.

5Quickly Build A Fleet

Speed is essential when dealing with Fanatic Purifiers.

One thing that can deter a Fanatic Purifier invasionis a strong fleet, as they will usually prioritize attacking their weak neighbors first while saving up the strong empires for the last. By quickly rushing fleets out of the shipyards, an empire will be able to project its strength, making the purifier more cautious before invading.

Rushing out a number of fleets is also a good precautionary measure even before the purifier sends out a declaration of war. An empire can expect to be attacked at any time by its fellow hostile neighbor, the Fanatic Purifier.

4Fortify Chokepoints

Chokepoints are crucial in defending against an invasion.

When attacked by a Fanatic Purifier, an empire can expect to lose a certain number of systems before they can strike back. And before they do, they must either reinforce orrebuild the empire’s main fleet. Therefore, a system that serves as the only way to the rest of the empire, commonly referred to as a chokepoint, is crucial for survival.

Heavily fortifying the chokepoint system is one of the best ways to hold out against a Fanatic Purifier. As long as Jump Drive has not been researched yet, a chokepoint will be more than enough to keep the purifiers at bay and buy time long enough to regroup the fleets.

3Build Fortress Worlds

Inhibit a Purifier’s marauding fleet.

In most cases, an empire can expect to lose the first few skirmishes against a Fanatic Purifier’s fleet due to fleet strength difference and superiority in numbers. In such cases, players can build a Fortress World, which is a colony fitted with a Fortress that is capable of inhibitinga fleet’s FTL travel.

With the FTL inhibition, the fleet will be forced to take over the planet first before they can continue their fleet’s progress into an empire’s territory. Taking the colony will be hard for the purifier as well. Fortress Worlds are typically guarded by numerous land units, making any land invasion extremely hard to win.

2Efficient Resource Management

Know what resources to prioritize during an invasion.

Having border frictions with a Fanatic Purifier will translate into a declaration of war sooner or later, depending on the Fanatic Purifier’s current war agenda and priorities. Therefore, it isimportant to manage resources efficiently.

Players should prioritize Minerals and Alloys when they find out that a purifier is on their doorstep. Those resources will be crucial in building the necessary defensive buildings, starbase modules, and most importantly, a fleet huge enough to clash with the purifier’s numerous fleets.

An Image of Stellaris: Focus On War Technologies

1Focus On War Technologies

War technologies aid against powerful enemies

During peaceful times, players should focus on other technologies. Good options include rare technologies that increase an empire’s population growth speed, oracquiring knowledge of archaeotechnologywhich will unlock the mastery of technologies used by space civilizations in the past. However, such focuses are a luxury when a neighbor happens to be a Fanatic Purifier.

Focusing on wartime technology will be necessary as it helps to hold off an onslaught of attacks from a Fanatic Purifier. Researching Kinetic Artillery in the field of Propulsion, Extended Combat Algorithms in Computing, and Interstellar Fleet Traditions in Military Theory are some of the viable research options. Prioritize one of these when they appear in one of the random available technology options.
