Set after the events ofThe Hobbit,The Lord of the Rings: Gollumfollows Gollum on his journey to find and reclaim the One Ring. Leaving the Misty Mountains, his search brought him to the Shadow Mountains in Mordor, where he spent many years of his life. Gollum normally explores this mountain in search of food, but he can also encounter a Collectible if he visits the right area.

Players can find an abundance of Collectibles while playing throughThe Lord of the Rings: Gollum, but not all of them are as easy to locate as others.The Whetstone is the only Collectible available in Chapter 1, and it’s surprisingly hard to find if players don’t know where to look.
Where To Find The Whetstone Collectible In The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum
The Whetstone Collectible can actually be found quite early inChapter 1: The Wraith, but it can be missed if players are following the direct path forward without examining the surrounding climbable areas. So long as players don’t progress past the"Day is near. Go back to your cave"objective, they will be able to find the Collectible shortly after climbing further up the mountain.
After learning how toFar Jumpand climb vines,the strange protagonist, Gollum, mustleap across a pretty big gapto grab onto the vines on the opposite wall. Climbing to the top, he must thenclimb two more sets of vinesto reach the next area, where the first Collectible ofThe Lord of the Rings: Gollumcan be found.
Following the path to the end of this room leads to the next part of the story; before going there, players should turn their attention to the protrudingrock platforms on the left. Jumping onto the first platform, Gollum can turn right and climb to the one above, where he must then jump to the slightly higher one to reach a narrow stone walkway.
These platforms can be reached with precise regular jumps, but if players are struggling to close the distance, they should use Gollum’s Far Jump ability to improve their chances.
Proceeding to the right of the walkway, Gollum must turn right, jump to the top of the stone pillar, and then jump to the second stone walkway ahead. Turning right, he can approacha small hole in the wallandcrawl through itto reach a hidden area; inside,the Whetstone Collectiblecan be seenlying on the ground.
Where To See Collectibles In The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum
After obtaining the Whetstone Collectible, players can return to theMain Menuand select theCollectiblesoption to check it out. Here, they can also examine all other Collectibles they find during the story and can select them to hear what Gollum thinks about them.
When the Whetstone is selected, Gollum will say “Can make our teeth sharp again with this one,” implying that he plans to grind the Whetstone against his teeth.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollumis available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch release planned for later this year.
