Ever since the release ofLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the internet has been filled with predictions and pleas over what the next Traveller’s TalesLEGOgame should be. Some have been calling for the next title to be MCU related, others have wanted a return to Middle-Earth or the Wizarding World, and some have even wanted another adventure through theStar WarsTV shows There is an endless amount of franchises that could receive aLEGOgame, and many fans are skipping some less obvious ones.
Recently, LEGO has announced that it is releasing anOptimus Prime LEGO setbased on the character fromTransformers. Usually, Traveller’s Tales does not craft a LEGO game around an IP unless that series has LEGO sets already based on it. Now that LEGO is dipping its toes in theTransformersuniverse, it means it may be fair game for a full-fledged LEGO title based on the transforming aliens. This would serve as a brand-new IP for Traveller’s Tales and may be just whatTransformersneeds.

Over the years, there have been countless video gamesbased on theTransformersfranchise. Many of them have been based on Michael Bay’s series of live action films, and some have served as standalone experiences. While they have been decent experiences for fans, seldom have they let players run wild as the giant robots. Currently, the most popular games based onTransformershas been Activision’sCybertronseries, but those titles has since been delisted due to licenses expiring and a new entry in the series has not come out since 2014.
Transformers: Devastationserved as the lastTransformersgame from Activision, but that came out back in 2015 and has also been delisted due to licensing issues. A majority of theTransformersgames from Activision suffered the same fate of being delisted, and that has leftTransformersfans with not a lot of options. Unless they own the physical copies they cannot play the entireCybertronseries orDevastation. The only bigTransformerstitle that has released since then is a tactical warfare game known asTransformers: Battlegrounds, which is a far cry from previous titles in the franchise. Other than that,Transformersfans can check out loads of mobile titles based on the franchise.
While theTransformersgames were never critically acclaimed, they did offer a lot of fun for fans of the franchise. However, fans have to mostly turn to mobile platforms if they want toget theirTransformersfix. Games likeTransformers: Earth Wars,Transformers: Forged to Fight, andAB Transformersare all free-to-play titles that simply require downloading them from the app store. These titles are nothing like the older games, but they are pretty much the only option forTransformersfans unless they want to play someBattlegroundsor track down physical discs.
LEGO Transformers Could Fix That
TheTransformersfranchise is in desperate need of a new full-fledged video game and a LEGOTransformerstitle may be able to offer that. If the upcoming Optimus Prime LEGO set is a success, then LEGO will most likely make even moreTransformersbased LEGO sets. If those continue to sell well and garner a big enough fanbase, then Traveller’s Tales may even want to consider making aTransformerstitle with its LEGO formula. Tossing the transforming aliens into a game similar toLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker SagaorLEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2would go a long way to giving fans what they want.
LEGOTransformerscould take cues from previousTransformersgames and offer explorable areas based on Cybertron as well as various Earth locations. With the upcomingTransformers: Rise of The Beasts, it would be a perfect time for Traveller’s Tales to make a game based on theTransformersfilms. Many fans may prefer if it creates its own unique story in theTransformersuniverse, and Traveller’s Tales has shown it is very capable of crafting brand-new stories in pre-established IPs. The title could also adapt the iconic animated show that started it all,The Transformers. There are years of story telling possibilities for the game, Traveller’s Tales just has to choose what kind of story it wants to tell.
Transformershas not received many non-mobile titlessince 2015, and the majority of the best reviewed titles are no longer purchasable. Now, fans can only turn to mobile games for content, but a LEGOTransformersgame could fix that. It would not only giveTransformersfans something to play, but it would also let Traveller’s Tales stretch its legs and try out a whole new franchise; It might be exactly what theLEGOgames need.
