Recently,Elden Ringreceived its long-awaited expansion,Shadow of the Erdtree. While it has become routine for developer FromSoftware to release high-quality DLC for its Soulslikes,Elden Ring’s own is already in contention for the best and hardest it has ever made.Shadow of the Erdtreeis certainly the longest, if nothing else, and it should take players at least a couple of months to work through its content and unravel all of its mysteries. Even though FromSoftware’s future games are currently unknown, its fans have plenty to do until the next project is ready to show.

Many rumors are already swirling about what that will be, and there isn’t an unappealing option among them. Some have been theorizing thatArmored Core 6: Fires of Rubiconcould receive an expansion of its own to mirror thegenerational half-step games that pastArmored Coretitleshave received. Others are wondering if the 2023 leaks concerning a new magic-based Soulslike hold any water. Whatever the case may be, the latest rumor about anElden Ringmovie or TV show comes straight from director Hidetaka Miyazaki and co-writer George R. R. Martin’s own mouths, and that could mean big things for its contents.

Elden Ring Has Plenty of Plot Points Left Hanging

If a movie is on the way, it would probably be best served tugging onlore threads thatElden RingandShadow of the Erdtreehaven’t exhausted yet. There are several pivotal events still ripe for exploration, like the Night of Black Knives, the Shattering, and even Marika and Godfrey’s campaign against the Fire Giants. Even without FromSoftware’s direct involvement, fans concerned withElden Ring’s lore would likely be very receptive to whatever new elements an adaptation brings, as there are plenty of things they would love to see confirmed or elaborated on.

An Elden Ring Film Could Reveal Melina and Destined Death’s History

However, there are a couple of blank spots that remain larger than the rest, and just about anyElden Ringplayer would love to see more of at least one of them. Melina, the playable Tarnished’s companion for most of the game, and the unseen Gloam-Eyed Queen, remain noticeablymore mysterious than many ofElden Ring’s plot elements, and it came as a surprise whenShadow of the Erdtreedid little to change this. There is a stronger implication that Melina is Marika and Radagon’s secret child by way of being Messmer’s twin sister, but it now falls to outside sources to reveal more.

Melina and the Gloam-Eyed Queen Are Ideal Elden Ring Movie Subjects

Melina being among these potential movie topics is a better boon than it seems, as she is arguably just as muchElden Ring’s protagonist as the player. A film that shows the events ofElden Ring’s backstory from Melina’s perspective could be gripping and set the record straight all at the same time, filling in tons of blanks along the way while reinforcing the role she plays in the original game. Having a character that would naturally be close toElden Ring’s all-important demigod familywould give them plenty of characterization too, and should make for a fittingly impactful film.

The Gloam-Eyed Queen Lacks Screen Time, But Not Potential

That goes double for whenever the Gloam-Eyed Queen and her Godskin cult are around. While given a frustrating lack of clear information inElden Ringbeyond their association with Destined Death, these mighty background figures would make ideal movie villains. These two plot threads could then be woven together by Melina having the last of the Gloam-Eyed Queen’s power sealed in her left eye, paralleling Messmer’s serpent situation. It’s too soon to call whatElden Ring’s movie could be, but if it does exist, then this would be a satisfying direction for it to take.
