Summary
CD Projekt Red has recently announced that the PC version ofThe Witcher 3: The Wild Huntwill get official mod support in 2024. WhileThe Witcher 3is one of the best open-world gamesout there, it’s not as mod-friendly as the popularSkyrim, for instance, and this update may be a game-changer for modders.
The Witcher 3is a very popular game, which is probably why it’s still getting updates after all these years. A few months ago,The Witcher 3hit over 50 million copies sold. Considering that CD Projekt Red announced back in 2022 that the title had sold 40 million copies, this means that 10 million units of the 2015 game were sold in a single year, a testament to its enduring popularity.
Now, CD Projekt Red revealed thatThe Witcher 3: The Wild Huntwill get an official mod editor in 2024, and that it will be completely free, but only available for PC. By using it, players will be able to edit existing quests and features or create their own content from scratch. Unfortunately, not much information was released about the tool, including when exactly it will come out.
Right now,The Witcher 3has quite a few quality mods, including ones that improve the quality of NPC’s faces, change how Sign effects work, change lightning, sounds, the HUD, and more. However, there are not many mods that add content to the experience, such as unique new quests or storylines. Hopefully, this new editor will change that, giving something fresh for diehard fans.
What’s Next for The Witcher?
It’s not improbable that mod support will likely be the last major updateThe Witcher 3will receive. Last year, the title gained updated versions for current-gen consoles, but now, CD Projekt Red is mostly focusing on its new projects, includingthree upcomingThe Witchergames. One of them isProject Canis Majoris, which is a remake of the first game in the original trilogy made in Unreal Engine 5. Another game in development isProject Sirius, which is being developed by Molasses Flood, a studio owned by CD Projekt Red. Not much is known about this title, but it’s reported to be an open-world, multiplayer game. The main team, however, is currently working on the next iteration ofThe Witcher, which uses the codenamePolarisand will mark the start of a new trilogy.
