Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia has finally returned with the second season ofThe Witcherpremiering on Netflix on Friday. But, for the fans who have already binge-watched the season and are wondering how long they have to wait to see more of the Continent, the final episode of season two offers some hope.
As part of the post-credits scene in the season two finale ofThe Witcher, fans will get to see exclusive footage from the upcoming prequel series,The Witcher: Blood Origin. The elven-focused series, which is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s fictional world, is expected to premiere sometime in 2022, with no confirmed release date announced yet.

The minute-long footage, which acts as the series’ first teaser, mainly focuses on the protagonist, Sophia Brown’s Éile, and how she comes together with two of her companions, Laurence O’Fuarain’s Fjall and Michelle Yeoh’s Scian. Fans were most excited to hear aboutYeoh’s casting inThe Witcher: Blood Originand look forward to seeing her elven avatar, who is essentially a mystical swordmaster on the hunt for a powerful missing blade.
Set to Pitch Hammer’s cover of Ellie Goulding’s “Burn," the teaser does not reveal a lot and the plot still seems quite ambiguous. There are multiple shots of the three main characters travelling through barren lands and training for battle. They seem to be protecting some kind of ruin and receive assistance from other elves along the way. Netflix also revealed a closer look at the ruin, along with images of maps of some sort on its Twitter account.
Similar toThe Witcher, the cinematography inThe Witcher: Blood Originlooks mesmerizing and fans can already look forward to some fantastic shots. The prequel series was first announced in July 2020 and had to face several delays due to the ongoing pandemic and casting issues.Jodie Turner-Smith was originally castas the lead in the show but had to step away due to scheduling issues. Sophia Brown was later brought in to replace her role of Éile.
TheWitcher: Blood Origincast was eventually finalizedand filming began on the show that focuses on the same world asThe Witcherbut is set 1,200 years before the timeline of Cavill-led series. The six-part limited series will highlight the creation of the very first prototype Witcher and further explain the Conjunction of the Spheres. Fans will be able to dig deep into the world where monsters, humans, and elves co-exist.
