To Your Eternityseason two, episode 10, “Resonance”, shows us an upgrade in Fushi’s powers, not really because he learned how to do something new but, in actuality, just realized how his powers work. With Kahaku leading the Guardians and the Uralis armies to fight the Nokkers, and Bon building diplomatic ties with the royal princess of Renril, Fushi has been left alone to grow in strength. His own personal goal is to create larger things, specifically the ship he is living in.

Unfortunately, Fushi has only been able to create parts of the ship, not the whole. With a three-month deadline, he asks the Beholder what to do, and the Beholder states that Fushi needs to realize that everything belongs to him. With that cryptic answer, Fushi goes back to struggling to make a ship. After working hard, Fushi’s horse pushes him to go out and actually get some new food, and Fushi realizes they are close to a town. With his hood up to hide from theChurch of Bennett, Fushi actually buys a great deal of food. He’s on his way back to the boat when he feels a stab of pain coming from some poor people, starving in the street. He instantly goes and gives all his food away, and a woman with a small child spurs his kindness. She states she wants nothing to do with the whims of a rich man and how it must feel great to manipulate people like that and runs away. Fushi is completely shocked by this response but becomes distracted by another wave of pain coming from somewhere nearby.

The Clay Pot People

He follows it to a side show act, where a boy and a girl are being kept in cages in one of the tents. Fushi can feel the young boy dying, and he tries to bribe the carnival host to set them free. When that doesn’t work, he tries to buy them, but he’s shoved away and told to leave. Fushi comes back in the night and effortlesslymelts the bars of the cage. He carries the boy in his arms while the girl rides behind him on the horse, both clinging to clay pots. The boy doesn’t make it, and they are forced to bury him in the forest, the little girl putting one of the pots in the grave as well.

Fushi takes the girl to his boat, and while initially apprehensive, she becomes quite receptive to his kindness. She’s shown to have an active and fun-loving personality, and Fushi calls her Eko after she mispronounces the Japanese word for cat, neko. He sews her a dress and gives her a bath, and while she doesn’t say anything but meager echos of his own words and hold out her clay pot towards him, thetwo become roommates.

to your eternity - fushi’s talent

Once she’s properly settled, Fushi goes back to his training, the words of that poor woman from town still bothering him. He refuses to think that March saved him just to control him, or that Tonari’s desire to save her friends came from any machination, or that Bon’s sacrifice of his own life was just because hew wanted to control others. Fushi is distracted from this thought at the feel of Eko getting hurt, having fallen from a ladder.

Fushi firmly believes that his ability to feel others pain comes from a purpose of helping them. He realizeshe feels the pain of otherslike its his own, as if it had been from the beginning. Thinking of Eko’s pain, he turns into her brother and is finally able to understand her through the powers of the clay pot. Understanding her concern for him finally, he assures her that he’s okay and goes to try training again.

Fushi finally realizes that the Beholder didn’t mean that he owned everything by his earlier piece of advice, but that Fushi is in everything he sees and feels. If he is able to merge with things, they become an extension of himself. Fushi starts harvesting the vines from the forest and weave them all throughout the boat, making sure to create his own to connect to the circit. He sits in a chair and allows his physical body to extend to the vines, slowly allowing his consciousness to treat the entire boat aspart of his nervous system. During a storm, he is able to close doors and patch holes in the helm while still seated in that chair. He grows fruit from his vines, and when Bon and Kahaku come to visit him later, Fushi had extended the entire forest to the edge of the beach. Plants covered the ship, and another ship had been created on top.

Kahaku and Bon are worried about Fushi when they see him at first, completely covered in vines, but Fushi has been able to feel them walking across his body as soon as they entered the ship. He creates another body at a table he created in a separate room and can actively move his focus from one form to another, almost as if he were a super organism. His friends comment that it looks as if he’s teleporting.

Fushi’s Talent

He effortlessly kills a Nokker that briefly touches his body, maybe a good twenty feet away from the vessel fo the Nameless Boy sitting with Kahaku and Bon at the table. Fushi has been able to make his entire body twenty times bigger. Bon keeps his thoughts of how Fushi seems less human to himself.

Fushi provides food for Bon and Kahaku and introduces them to Eko. Kahaku is able to puzzle out that Eko is probably part of a mythical clan of people from far away. At his words, Eko starts to get a little upset, and Fushi turns into her brother to understand her better. Using the clay pot, he learns that hertribe was destroyed by Nokkers, and she now has no home to return to. Fushi states that she will be staying with him, and while Kahaku is apprehensive, Bon supports the idea completely.

Bon has been busy forming an alliance with theprincess of Renril. He had to plead his case to her without Kahaku’s Nokker as evidence of Intel sense it’s not safe to travel with someone the Church of Bennett has declared as a heretic. At first, the princess was offended by Bon’s proposal to taker her people, her sick father, and her army and run while the Guardians and the Uralis army defend her city. She and Bon reach a happy negotiation of both of them staying to fight, everyone pooling their strength to combat the Nokkers.

With Fushi’s training over, Bon states that he will be returning to Uralis to find some immortal friends to help them fight. Kahaku has absolutely no idea what that could mean, but Fushi feels a weak bit of hope at the prospect. Fushi, Eko, and Kahaku make their way to Renril, ready to build defenses for the coming Nokker war.
