Ascent is a defender-side favored map, and attacking here is definitely not a simple task. There is a lot to unravel while playing on Ascent, and here are ten tips that will help players to get better on the map.

10Defending Mid

A standard Mid defense features one player on Catwalk and two players in Mid Market. Depending upon the information that players gain on other locations, the Mid players can either push forward, or one of them can rotate to A or B. If the attacking team smokes the entrance of Mid, the player at Catwalk can rotate to check Mid. It is usually best to hold mid and wait for the enemy team to make a movie.

9Defending B Site

The main objective while holding B is getting control of the B Main. Agents such asCypherandSagereally shine here as either of them can choke the B main with their utilities. Blocking B Main will allow players from Mid and Catwalk to rotate and backstab the opposing players. It’s very hard to attack B, so one Agent is usually enough to hold the sight. Delaying the enemy push waiting for reinforcements is the way to go while holding B site.

8Defending A Site

It’s a very open site with a lot of small structures to hide behind. Like the other two sites, the goal here is to wait and retrieve as much information as possible before making a move.

One player is usually enough to hold A site, but if needed, the player from Catwalk can move and act as a reinforcement. Holding angles can be very effective, as enemy players won’t likely check each corner every round.

7Attacking Mid

Ideally, you want one person threatening A and one person threatening B. This will make room for the three players that are pushing Mid. There isn’t a specific formation for the Mid players, and it solely depends upon the scenario. Depending upon the response you get from an A and B, the Mid players can either rotate to B via Market or push Catwalk and attack A. If nothing works, players can rush Mid and surprise the enemy team.

6Attacking B Site

As cheesy as it sounds, pushing B Main early is a very efficient tactic. B site is usually held by a single player, so if you can find an early pick at B site, you should instantly set up for Spike planting. Rotating on Ascent takes a lot of time, and in most cases, the attacking team won’t be able to retake the control of the site. Players can also push Mid and enter B site through the Market.

5Attacking A Site

The general idea is to push both A main and Catwalk simultaneously. Usually, teams stick to 3-2 formation where three players push A main, and two players try to get inside A via Catwalk. It’s necessary to block the vision of Mid before pushing Catwalk.

4Metal Doors Can be Closed

Ascent features two metal doors, one at A and one at B, that many players are unaware of. These metal doors can be closed by simply pressing the switch near to these doors. This a great way of shutting down enemies that are pushing onto the site. It can also be used to delay the retake of a site by defending time. Although these are made of metal, they can be destroyed by bullets and are also penetrable.

3Best Agents To Play

Agents that can solo hold sites are great in Ascent. Cypher and Sage are particularly good at holding B and are also great while attacking. Other strong Agents include Phoenix,Raze, and Reyna. These are duelists that can control mid with their abilities and can also take over games individually.Omenis darkhorse in Ascent as there are several places at a decent height that he is able to teleport on and gain a height advantage.

2Contest For Ultimate Orbs

Similar to every other map, Ascent features two Ultimate Orbs that give one Ultimate point each when consumed. The first one is located in B Main and is more favored towards the defending team. The second one lies in A Main but is more accessible for players that are attacking. Players should always contest for these Orbs, as they can be crucial in setting up plays and getting success in a game.

1Mid Control Should Be Top priority

As reiterated multiple times before, Mid control is the most important task while playing on Ascent. Both attacking and defending team should pay extra attention to Mid and should always contest the Mid area. Rotations are very hard and take a long time in Ascent, however, the team with the Mid control will definitely be able to rotate faster. It’s also interesting to note that Mid can lead to both A and B, which makes it a lethal choke point.
