The video game industry has been swept up in a surge ofgames inspired by and built around the world of Norse mythology. From the most recentGod of WartoAssassin’s Creed Valhalla, some of the biggest franchises are taking a crack at the Nine Realms in new and interesting ways. Smaller developers are getting in on the action as well, and the upcomingTribes of Midgardfrom Norsfell Games is poised to give gamers yet another dose of Norse content.

Tribes of Midgard’s survival-RPG mechanics look exciting enough on their own, but the game might also provide an opportunity forGod of Warfans that are desperately waiting for the game’s sequel. Much to the chagrin of fans, the nextGod of Warisn’t coming as soon as some had hoped. Santa Monic Studio decided to shift the release date for the game to sometime in 2022, but in the meantime,Tribes of Midgardcould serve as a good appetizer to hold fans over until then.

Getting That Norse Mythology Fix

One of the most interesting things about 2018’sGod of Warwas its unique approach to Norse mythology. TheGod of Warseries took a huge risk diverting from its Greek mythology roots, but it paid off in a big way. Now that fans will have to wait for the Ragnarok that the sequel is teasing,Tribes of Midgardcould give more Norse mythology contentto the fans that fell in love with it duringGod of War.Tribeshas everything from giants to the mythical tree Yggdrasil, so there should be more than enough for players that want to learn as much as they can about the myths.

Grounding The Mythical

God of Wargave players an immense amount of power as Kratos, which at this point is expected from the series as a whole. While it is enjoyable to run through the Nine Realms as an unstoppable force, it can be refreshing to approach a particular setting with a whole new perspective.Tribes of Midgardhas players take control of their own customizable Einherjar, a resurrected warrior who is tasked with protecting the see of Yggdrasil. They don’t have any godly powers and must scavenge for resources to survive. It’s a far cry fromthe power of Kratos, but it could be a refreshing change of pace for players willing to experiment.

God of War: Ragnarok Will Take Some Time

As frustrating as it may be, the nextGod of Waris going to take some time to come out. Santa Monica Studio didn’t give a projected release date other than 2022 when it gave out its most recent delay, and with how much hype is behind the game, the studio will want it to be practically perfect.Tribes of Midgard’s survival gameplayprovides an excellent opportunity to fill time until theGod of Warsequel releases.Tribesis all about building up a player and settlement to its highest level, and it will likely take some time to see everything the game has to offer. It should all hopefully be more than enough to keep players occupied.

There’s no questioning just how highly anticipated the nextGod of Waris. Players took to the new approach to Kratos' story with a lot of enthusiasm, and the thought of the sequel taking advantage ofthe PS5’s hardwareis certainly exciting.Tribes of Midgardmay be a very different game from the newestGod of War, but for fans that just can’t get enough of Norse mythology and want something to hold them over,Tribes of Midgardcould be a great game to keep an eye on.
