One of Twitch’s most popular streamers of 2020 was xQc, a French Canadian and former professionalOverwatchplayer. Now streaming a variety of games on Twitch for the esports organization Luminosity Gaming, xQc has solidified himself as one of 2020’s most viewed internet personalities, evenafter his temporary ban on Twitchfollowing a stream sniping incident.
Felix “xQc” Lengyel has even garnered the attention of Twitch giants like Dr Disrespect, whocriticized xQc for streamingBloons, a cartoony tower defense game. While that is all in good fun, that kind of exposure was enough to warrant a fan base specifically for xQc, where he recently hosted an event where fans could share their Christmas gifts for xQc to react to.

While plenty of the gifts shared during theTwitchstream, there was one in particular that left xQc feeling a bit creeped out. That gift was none other than a body pillow featuring xQc’s likeness with viewer ItsZoil snuggling up close to the xQc themed pillow. However, xQc quickly showed his disdain for the pillow, calling it weird and claiming something like it should not even exist. After collecting himself, xQc moved on to the next gift, but the Twitch chat was already having a field day where they collectively joined in on the unease and jokingly asked where they too could purchase a pillow for themselves.
While there was certainly no harm meant in sharing this gift, it does speak a bit to the sometimes bizarre level of fandom that streamers can find themselves in. While there are great fanmade items likethe customized Pewdiepie Pokemon card, a body pillow adds a bit more weirdness, as it’s an item intended for close personal contact. Obviously, xQc was uncomfortable with the joke, as anyone would likely be if they too saw someone cuddling a pillow that looked just like them.
Twitch is no stranger to drama and controversy, evenTwitch’s controversal banning of the word “simp” recently caused use of the word to skyrocket. It is important for fans to remember the entertainer in front of the camera is indeed a human and might not always be game for jokes that have the potential to cross boundaries.
xQc even seems to have a certain proclivity for getting himself involved in controversies, likethe time he accidentally revealed a folder for Cheats. Despite all of that, the pillow controversy seemed to die down quickly as xQc was able to successfully move on and finish the gift event without much extra trouble.
