Summary
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed that multiple remakes of oldAssassin’s Creedtitles are coming in the future. The long-running franchise has spawned over a dozen entries since kicking off with the firstAssassin’s Creedgame in 2007.
For nearly two decades,Assassin’s Creedhas consistently achieved remarkable success with games likeAssassin’s Creed: Brotherhood,Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, andAssassin’s Creed: Valhalla. In the process, the highly profitable franchise has virtually become synonymous with developer Ubisoft. Notably, its rich and long history means that the series is also ripe for the devs to go back and explore the remake potential of certainclassicAssassin’s Creedtitles.
In arecent interview published by Ubisoft, Guillemot said thatAssassin’s Creedfans can ramp up their excitement as “some remakes” of oldAssassin’s Creedgames are set to arrive in subsequent years. He added that the “worlds” in certain older games in the series are “still extremely rich.” The CEO expects remakes to enable the gaming giant to “revisit” previousAssassin’s Creedtitles and “modernize” them. On whether the series will retain its newly established approach, with large-scale entries likeValhallabeing developed alongside gamescloser to the originalAssassin’s Creedformula likeMirage, Guillemot confirmed that the future of the franchise will have “plenty of experience variety.”
Ubisoft Aims to Diversify the Assassin’s Creed Experience
Explaining the variety-focused approach forAssassin’s Creed, Guillemot emphasized that, while the developer aims to roll out games “more regularly,” it also wants the franchise to avoid being “the same experience every year.” He suggested that this new approach to the series will be better understood when players notice how much the forthcomingAssassin’s Creed: Shadowsdiffers fromAssassin’s Creed Hexe, which will be released even further down the road. He added, “We’re going to surprise people, I think.”
With remakes now confirmed, players can likely expecticonicAssassin’s Creedcharacters, such as Ezio Auditore and Edward Kenway, to return in a modern game in the future. Based on the Ubisoft CEO’s statement about regularity, it seems possible for the franchise to eventually return to its old ways of releasing a newAssassin’s Creedgame every year–as was routine from 2009 to 2015. Given that the developer’s strategy going ahead also focuses on providing varied experiences, fans may see these remakes thrown in between modernValhalla-likeAssassin’s Creedentries and more traditionalAssassin’s Creedtitles likeMirage.
While there’s still plenty of time before Ubisoft fleshes out itsAssassin’s Creedremake plans, the next game in the series is set to arrive on November 15. At its Ubisoft Forward event earlier this month, the developer gave anextended look atAssassin’s Creed: Shadows’s gameplay, revealing a bunch of new features. As Ubisoft prepares to welcome the fans to a feudal Japan experience, it’ll be exciting to see which era it decides to revisit with the firstAssassin’s Creedremake.
Assassin’s Creed
Assassin’s Creed is an action-adventure stealth series published and developed by Ubisoft and its various first party studios. Originally releasing in 2007, the series has seen 12 mainline releases with the recent games moving to a more open-world RPG style. Each game typically showcases major historical moments like the Italian Renaissance, Crusades, or French Revolution, focusing mostly on a long standing conflict between the free-minded Assassins against the order loving Knights Templar.
