Ubisoftmay have been working on as many as 12 battle royale titles at a certain point, according to one report. The news comes to light afterUbisoftannounced numerous cancelations and delays of its slate of games. Now it appears that the company’s ambitious plans for a battle royale hit were part of the story.
Battle royale games have been gaining massive popularity in recent years with titles likeApex Legends,Fortnite, andCall of Duty Warzone2 reigning supreme. It should come as no surprise that several major game publishers have looked to capitalize on this growing space for a while.Hyper Scapewas Ubisoft’s first major attempt at the genre. However, the game failed to bear fruit, andHyper Scapewas eventually shut downon June 27, 2025. Of course, rumors of upcoming Ubisoft battle royale titles continued to surface even afterHyper Scapecame to an end. Though it wasn’t clear how much effort the French publisher was really putting into the genre, until now.

According to Insider Gaming, one Ubisoft employee claims that the company has been actively looking to capitalize on battle royale’s success in the past two years. The report further mentions that at one point Ubisoft had at least 12 battle royale games in various stages of development, but it’s unclear what’s become of these projects. Either way, the publisher delayed andcanceled a number of upcoming Ubisoft gamesas most of these were “not what gamers wanted,” says the employee. Additionally, the report suggests that Ubisoft’s decision was largely due to its slate of games needing more polish.
Another employee reveals that the company has been working on an unannounced live-service game since 2019 that’s scheduled for a 2025/2026 release. A few other unannounced games are also currently in the pipeline for 2027 or a later launch date claims the employee. While it’s unclear what these titles could be, pastleaks and rumors point toThe Crew: Orlando, a possible sequel to the popular racing series being among them.
While it appears that Ubisoft may be looking to realign its focus on its future, the company seems to be hopeful about some of the upcoming massive AAA titles such asAssassin’s Creed MirageandAvatar: Frontiers of Pandora. But whether that optimism will pan out, only time will tell. This is particularly tricky at a time when its CEO’s comments have promptedcalls for the Ubisoft Paris division to strike. In any case, the gaming giant seems to have an interestingly long and ambitious road ahead.
