Warhammer 40,000: Darktideis a first-person, co-op horde shooter that acts as a successor to theWarhammer: Vermintidegames. LikeVermintide, players inDarktidewill be able to choose from a number of classes as they face off against almost endless hordes of foes. UnlikeVermintide, which has a fantasy focus,Darktidetakes players to the grimdark far future ofWarhammer 40k, where they are trapped in a hive world overrun by a cult of theChaos godNurgle.
Darktidehas faced multiple delays since it was first announced. However, recentlyDarktidewas given a release date trailerwith developer Fatshark promising that the game would launch in September 2022. As it is around four months away until fans will get their hands onDarktide, details on the game are beginning to be revealed. While through previous gameplay trailers and concept art, fans already had a good idea of how the game would play and what it would look like. However, recent reveals have shown that there are plenty of unknowns aboutDarktide.

Fans suspected that there would be a magic-wielding class inDarktide,as there was a wizard inVermintideandVermintide 2. Now, Fatshark has officially revealed that there will be a playable Psyker inDarktide. Psykers areWarhammer 40k’sversion of mages, as they wield the powers of the warp, which is traditionally therealm of Chaos, similarly to magic in fantasy settings. However, as the warp is unstable, it can lead to the Psyker inDarktidecausing damage to themselves, similarly to Sienna inVermintide.
Not only willDarktidehave an extra class at launch, but it will allow players to customize the appearance of the characters they choose.Darktide’scharacters are not set in stone unlikeVermintide’sclasses, and a player can change anything from their character’s hair to gender. It is unknown whether this will impact the banter seen inDarktide, as most fans praisedVermintide’sbanter due to it being related to specific characters they grew to love.
According to Fatshark, the dialogue and banter withinDarktidewill outshine previous entries from the developer.Darktidewill allegedly feature 75,000 lines of dialogue between characters, meaning it could show a similar depth of dialogue seen in games likeHades. Moreover, asDarktidereaches the months following its launch, the game’s storyline and missions will continue to develop, similar to a live service. Some fans were fearful of this turning into aDestiny 2approach to story, where some content becomes locked away forever in the game’s Content Vault. However, most are seeing this as an additive approach, where the game’s story will be added to over time, and not replaced with newer content.
