One ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim’s players was attacked by an assassin who was apparently hired by one of the game’s well-known child characters. The character in question is from Whiterun, one of the earliest locations most playersSkyrimplayers encounter.
Despite releasing all the way back in 2011,Skyrimstill has a wealth of active players both old and new. The first few main quests of the game will take players to thecity of Whiterun, introducing them to its many citizens who have become widely recognized by the game’s fanbase. Whiterun’s placement as an early in-game area has made it commonly known amongSkyrimplayers, similar to other well-known locations in open-world games like Kakariko Village inThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildor Valentine inRed Dead Redemption 2.

Apart from typical interactions with townsfolk, players can also come across random encounters while traversingSkyrim. These can include attacks fromthe Dark Brotherhood, an organization of assassins that can be hired to kill the player by in-game NPCs, usually one that the player has wronged in some way. OneSkyrimplayer on Reddit encountered an assassin, successfully fought them off, and was surprised to find the assassin’s contract indicated that they were hired by Lars Battle-Born, one of the children living in Whiterun. In the comments of the post, the player admitted to stealing Lars' sweet roll which likely prompted the assassination attempt.
Lars Battle-Born is best known by fans for being bullied by anotherWhiterun child named Braith, a notorious bully who can be seen hustling Lars for money. These two characters are even given their own quest in which Lars asks the player to convince Braith to stop bullying him. Fans in the replies of the post were quick to mention how Lars claimed to never have any money to give Braith but was somehow still able to hire an assassin from one of the most reputable factions in the game’s world.
Despite Bethesda Game Studio’s checkered history in the time sinceSkyrim’s release, the game is still held up as the studio’s magnum opus, continuing to bring in players to this day. It has been able to maintain relevancy in the gaming community, a testament to just how dense and well-crafted of an experienceSkyrimis. Even after the highly-anticipatedStarfieldreleases next year,Skyrimis sure to hold onto its prominence in gaming for years to come.
