Wo Long: Fallen Dynastyspices up its samurai combat with a slew of spells. These come in various types, each with its own skill tree. One such type is Metal Phase. From that name, players might expect steel projectiles or other metallic attacks.

In actuality, Metal Phase deals in poison. The magic in this branch sabotages enemies and opens new weaknesses. It also alters the environment to exploit those weaknesses.Wo Longprovides plenty such spells to get the job done, but finding the best ones is an ugly affair.
8Thorny Ground
It’s never fun to step on a sharp object, and this move makes sure enemies know that. Thorny Ground obviously causes thorns to sprout from the ground. These thorns then slow anyone who steps on them.
Placing these pointy plants in front of adversaries will delay their advance. This, in turn, gives players more time to hit those adversaries with other spells or projectiles. Alternatively, they could focus on other foes who are progressing at normal speed. Either way, this spell creates a momentary reprieve, allowing players to prioritize amidst the chaos of combat.
7Toxic Weapon
No matter how many environmental offensives players throw out, enemies will eventually reach them. Thankfully, the toxic powers extend to melee combat. This spellenchants one’s weapon with toxin, letting it poison any adversary it strikes.
With this enhancement, players can drain a huge chunk of health with little effort. All they have to do is outlast any enemies who retaliate. If they keep this up, then they may not even have to deal a final blow.
6Elemental Plague
This spell may not accomplish much on its own, but it’s downright deadly when paired with others. Elemental Plagueincreases the speed of status effects. That’s obviously where the combination aspect comes in.

Using this spell with other poison techniques amplifies their efficacy. The toxins accumulate and kill at a faster rate, meaning the targets are unlikely to reach the player. That’s a forgone conclusion with the thorns, which hinders them further. Casting all of these in conjunction ensures foes progress slowly and die quickly. There’s no doctor for this plague.
5Life Wither
Here’s another spell which complements others. Life Wither hits the front line witha cursed bolt, lowering the defenses of any enemies struck. This makes them more susceptible to damage for a short time.
Players should use that time to cast other spells. Moves which steadily drain health are especially useful, as this spell essentially amplifies their effects and lets the victim deteriorate more quickly. The attack becomes even more potent if Elemental Plague has already enhanced the spells. If Metal Phase users can stack all of these on top of each other, it creates a killer combination, one which no foe can withstand for long.
4Venomous Discharge
Some might questionhow bubbles could be useful in battle, but it all depends on the content. These are poisonous bubbles. When they pop, they generate toxic bogs. Anyone caught within those bogs gradually dies a painful death.
This is a great method of covering a wide area. True, it can be frustrating to gauge where the bubbles will end up, but odds are that they’ll infect at least a few enemies. As a result, Venomous Discharge is among the more reliable Metal Phase spells.
3Devouring Sweep
Many projectiles and traps affect a wide area, but they hinge on enemies stumbling into them. Players have no reliable way to aim them, which can be frustrating. As such, would-be warriors may want a more guided toxic attack.

Devouring Sweep fulfills that need. It’s a standard fog spell, but its area of effect is a wide cone. As expected, this guarantees some damage for all enemies in that blast radius. In that way, it’s more akin to conventional projectiles than most Metal Phase moves, meaning that it’s easier to latch onto.
2Calamity Bolts
Players may want to not only hurt foes, but hamper their ability to fight back. That’s where Calamity Bolts come in. Activating this spell fires specialized bolts at the enemies' front line. Upon contact, they reduce the damage that said enemies deal.
Again, players can only hold adversaries at bay for so long. These bolts ensure they don’t suffer much blowback. The spell is especially handy with large numbers, as it keeps foes from overwhelming the caster when they finally reach him.
1Molten Calamity Thorn
This is a move best saved for the grand finale. Like most spells, Molten Calamity Thorn damages enemies. That’s to be expected from the name, but it’s only the beginning of the move’s utility.
The spell ramps up its damage in correspondence with however many status ailments the enemies have. The downside is that it also cures foes of those ailments afterward, but that tradeoff is more than acceptable. If players make multiple ailments stick, they won’t even need them after activating this spell. Theexponential damage boost will obliterate adversariesbefore they ever worry about a cure. That’s why Molten Calamity Thorn is the perfect finisher for Metal Phase magic.
