Sylvanas Windrunner, one ofWorld of Warcraft’s most recognizable characters, has been brought to life through a breathtaking cosplay. Nekomance, a cosplayer and model, took to Instagram to show off this great rendition ofWorld of Warcraft’s Banshee Queen.
This cosplay comes on the heels of an announcement on theWorld of Warcraftforums that the latest update, 9.1, will becoming to the Public Test Realms (PTR) by mid-April.Chains of Domination, the name of this update toWorld of Warcraft: Shadowlands, will likely see players come to blows with the Banshee Queen within the Sanctum of Domination.

The cosplay matches the original character with brilliance. Nekomance shines in an armor set that looks as though it was pulled straight from the game files and even sports Sylvanas Windrunner’s lengthy eyebrows. Though the cosplayer argues in the post that the character’s direction at the moment isn’t exactly the best, Sylvanas' still has Nekomance’s love. Love or hate the High Elf, she will likely have a large role toplay inWorld of Warcaft: Shadowlands' update.
Cosplay is a common path for those who want to bring to life iconic and favorite characters, and this one sets a fairly high standard. Nekomance has dozens of examples that display a similar level of detail, from Camilla fromFire Emblemto Mercy fromOverwatch. The passion for the character really shines through the details of the cosplay and, even though someWorld of Warcraftplayers may not love the way Sylvanas has been written lately, they should appreciate this cosplay.
Fan passion-projects such as this one only increase the hype for the next piece ofShadowlands.It remains difficult to say whether or notChains of Dominationwill meet the expectationsof the fanbase but hopefully it lands on the PTR in good shape. Either way though, cosplays are generally a path for people to show their appreciation of characters and bring them to life for others to enjoy.
But it can be a bit of a shock to the system for players who have loved a character that ends up not translating well in a specific cosplay. Similar to a movie-adaptation of a book, a cosplay that doesn’t match the image from a favorite title can incite frustration. Fortunately, though, Nekomance took the time to bring Sylvanas Windrunner to life as accurately as possible. Now fans just have to hope the developers did similarjustice to Sylvanas inChains of Domination.
