Summary
SomeWorld of Warcraftfans have discovered an easter egg where the spirit of Grom Hellscream can sometimes appear while wielding the new Gorehowl axe. However, spawning this easter egg requires a specific set of triggers thatWorld of Warcraftplayers have to meet first.
Gorehowl is the legendary axe wielded by Grom Hellscream, former chieftain of the Warsong clan, and later his son Garrosh until his death. In Patch 10.1.5, Fractures in Time, Grom appeared as a boss in the time-twisting Dawn of the Infinite megadungeon, where players could get a high-resolution version of Gorehowl, as opposed to the old model from Prince Malchezaar or the corrupted one fromGarrosh inWoW’s Siege of Orgrimmar raid.

Now, some players lucky enough to have collected this iconic weapon have discovered an easter egg with it. If players have Gorehowl, Might of the Warchief equipped or in their bags somewhere, the spirit of Grom Hellscream will sometimes spawn and salute their character. However, in order for this to happen, players must be an Orc or Mag’har Orc, and they must be pledged to the Warsong clan as a part ofWorld of Warcraft’s Orc Heritage Armor questline.
ThelegendaryWorld of Warcraftcharacter’s spiritseems to be able to spawn in any location, and the trigger seems to occur randomly. Having Gorehowl transmogged over an existing weapon also seems to work, similarly to how Legion artifacts can still trigger their special interactions. There may be other prerequisites or factors at play for the easter egg, but if they exist, they have yet to be discovered.
Fans were understandably excited to discover this easter egg. Grom is one of the most popular Orc characters inWarcraft, and emulating him is the reason many decided to play Arms Warriors. With thenew Siege of Orgrimmar raid skip inWorld of Warcraftplus Gorehowl, players can now easily dress up their characters like either Hellscream without much trouble.
Now is a good time to be a fan of axes inWorld of Warcraft. Patch 10.2, Guardians of the Dream, is adding Fyr’alath, the Dream Render–a Legendary two-handed weapon dropped by Fyrakk in the Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope raid. This fiery new Strength weapon will be a must-have for Warriors, Death Knights, and Paladins. Though the exact statistics for this weapon or the method it is acquired aren’t known yet, players can look forward to earning theLegendary axe in a few months once the nextWoWcontent updategoes live.
World of Warcraftis available now for PC.
