There’s been no shortage of divisiveness and heated arguments ever since the new Mythic affixes were announced forWorld of Warcraft, but the recent string of nerfs implies that Blizzard is willing to course-correct and listen to the community.DragonflightSeason 2 is removing seasonal affixeswhile adding new ones to the mix, but the reception from players has been less than stellar. Though Mythic Keystones are meant to challenge dungeon groups by design, fans have always found certain affixes in Mythics tedious rather than challenging.

Thenew affixes coming inDragonflightSeason 2are Afflicted, Incorporeal, and Entangling – and what’s particularly unfortunate about them is that they fall prey to the aforementioned tedium by severely punishing players for ignoring the mechanic. Though the revamped Explosive affix arguably caused the most controversy (before being ultimately retired and replaced by Volcanic),World of Warcraftplayers were still apprehensive about the direction of the Mythic Keystone scene.

Given that the mechanics and numbers on the Public Test Realms are always in flux, Blizzard Entertainment had an opportunity to collect valuable feedback, and make a change before the affixes could hit the liveWorld of Warcraftservers. The new changes introduced in the latest PTR build fundamentally alter the way spawn rates work for Afflicted and Incorporeal affixes, theoretically making them far more tolerable for players.

Prior to the new changes, Afflicted and Incorporeal affixes functioned similarly to Explosive, with a random spawn rate that grew linearly with the amount of enemies pulled. In their newest iteration, their spawn rates are fixed, drawing inspiration from Quaking instead. Afflicted’s spawn rate has a cycle of 30 seconds, and its spawn rate isn’t guaranteed (meaning that it can skip an interval). Coupled with the nerfs introduced in earlier builds, which significantly reduced the amount of Afflicted mobs, it’s shaping up to be a very tolerableaffix forWorld of Warcraftplayersto handle.

On the other hand, the new Incorporeal affix has a similar non-guaranteed spawn cycle of 45 seconds that also comes with a significantly reduced spawn amount. The major gripes that theWorld of Warcraftcommunity had with the upcoming affixes have mostly been solved, leaving players excited for Mythic Keystones inDragonflightSeason 2. Fans can expect to try the new affixes starting from Level 7 Keystones, and withEmbers of Neltharion launching on May 2, as well as the season commencing on May 9, the changes couldn’t have come at a better time.
