Summary
Xboxapparently wants to create an achievement equivalent for PlayStation’s Platinum trophy.Xboxachievements were first introduced with the Xbox 360 and proved to be a massive hit with fans. Xbox achievements became so popular that they eventually inspired PlayStation to follow suit and have remained a staple of gaming ever since.
PlayStation’s version of achievements are trophies, with four different trophy tiers for players to unlock. There are Bronze trophies, Silver trophies, Gold trophies, and finally, Platinum trophies that players earn by unlocking all the other trophies in a game. Many fans attempt tounlock the Platinum trophyin their favorite games so they can say that they’ve truly completed them, and there has been a call for Xbox to introduce something similar.

And according to Jez Corden of Windows Central, Xbox is aware of this demand and wants to do it. Corden stated that he spoke to an Xbox executive at Gamescom, who explained that the reason why Xbox doesn’t already have a Platinum trophy equivalent is because of “priorities and time.” This may be disappointing to some fans who are anxious tosee Xbox introduce its own spin on the Platinum trophy, but the good news is that Xbox wanting to do it makes it more likely that it will happen eventually.
For those who may be wondering why Xbox fans care about having their own Platinum trophy, one big advantage with Platinum trophiesis that once players unlock them, they stay unlocked, even if a game adds new trophies through DLC or updates later on. With Xbox it’s a completely different story. Someone can get 100% in an Xbox game, only for new achievements added through DLC to ruin it. This is one big reason why Xbox fans have wanted to see Xbox get a Platinum trophy equivalent, so hopefully it happens at some point down the line.
If Xbox ever moves forward with adding a Platinum trophy equivalent, one has to imagine that the feature would be bundled up with one of its system updates.Xbox releases system updates for its various consoleson a regular basis, addressing fan feedback, shaking up the dashboard, and implementing new features. Xbox consoles will continue to evolve in the years to come, and so hopefully a future update includes the Xbox Platinum achievement, or whatever it ends up being called. Those that potentially want to get the jump on it and all other new Xbox features should consider signing up for the Xbox Insider program, as those individuals get access to console updates ahead of time.
